Miami County to close nonemergency offices Oct. 13 for employee development day

The Miami County Board of County Commissioners approved a request June 11 to close nonemergency county offices Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, so county employees can attend an annual employee development day.
Sarah Denney, Miami County human resources director, told the commission the day is intended to improve employee training and interdepartmental understanding. "Miami County is dedicated to the continued development and education and training of county employees," Denney said. The tentative agenda includes department‑level training, a county‑connect session on service interaction, lunch at the Pala Community Center and an afternoon session led by a government training institute on communication, de‑escalation and generational differences.
Commissioner Tyler Vaughn moved to approve the office closure and Commissioner Dedecker seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Departments will remain responsible for identifying needed training for their staff and for covering essential services during the closure.
