Councilor LaFrenz resigns after move outside city limits; council to post vacancy

Scappoose — Councilor LaFrenz announced during the June 16 council meeting that he is resigning because he will no longer meet the residency requirement for a city council seat after moving outside the Scappoose city limits.
LaFrenz said the move is five miles away to Warren but that he and his family will remain engaged with Scappoose schools and community activities. He told the council he hopes to remain involved locally and noted his daughter will attend Scappoose schools.
Mayor Joel Bacchus said the council will post a notice of vacancy at the next meeting and explained the council will set an application and interview schedule for filling the seat. Staff and councilors thanked LaFrenz for his service; the transcript records LaFrenz served about two and a half years on the council before the resignation.
The council did not at the meeting set a firm appointment date; staff will publish the notice of vacancy and the timeline for applications and interviews.
