Resident urges county engineer to study repeated flooding on County Road 61
Summary

Michael Morris, pastor of Mount Zion Church on County Road 61, told the Chilton County Commission that work done when the road was paved roughly 15 years ago — removing older bridge structures and replacing them with smaller culvert pipe — has restricted stream flow and increased flooding near the northern end of the road.
"They raised the road ... and basically built a berm or a dam," Morris said, describing water washing through a nephew’s barn and yard after the changes. He described a recurring pattern of repeated washouts and said residents must now travel long distances when roads are impassable.
Commission members asked whether Morris had spoken with the road department. Morris said the road department engineer visited recently and suggested running the creek through the middle of Morris’s property or returning the road to a dirt configuration; Morris said he did not favor those suggestions.
After the presentation, the commission agreed to instruct the county engineer to prepare a report on County Road 61 identifying needed work.
The exchange occurred during public comment; the commission did not make a funding decision at the meeting, but directed staff to investigate and report.
