Miami County commissioners unanimously rejected June 18 the lone bid for a bridge guardrail replacement project on Hedge Lane after staff reported the offer was roughly 107% above the engineer’s estimate.
Matt Oler, project manager, told commissioners the project (2202CO691) — described as the FAS 270 bridge guardrail replacement located on Hedge Lane south of 340 Seventh Street — received one competitive bid from Icon Structures. The bid was reported as $544,440.60; Schwab Eaton provided the project engineer's estimate of $262,300.
Oler recommended rejecting the bid (RFB 2025) because it exceeded the engineer’s estimate by about 107% and asked to resolicit the project at a later date. Commissioners approved the staff recommendation to reject the bid; the motion to reject was moved by Commissioner Vickery and seconded by Commissioner Dedecker and passed unanimously.
Commissioner Dieterker suggested staff explore milling down the road and reducing grading as a cost-saving measure before rebidding; Oler said he would investigate that option in subsequent solicitations. The transcript does not record any award or contract; staff will prepare the project for a future solicitation.
