Commission staff to seek resolution to close nonemergency offices for employee development day Oct. 13, 2025

Sarah Denny, Miami County human resources director, told commissioners the HR committee is requesting the commission approve closing nonemergency county offices for an employee development day on Monday, Oct. 13, 2025.
"So today we're discussing a request to close non emergency offices for our annual employee development day on October Monday 10/13/2025," Denny said. She described a committee that includes Linda Taylor (HR partner), Lucas Mellinger (assistant county administrator), Eric Sandberg (road and bridge director), Colt Oakland (EMS lieutenant) and Carol Gordon (assistant county appraiser).
Denny outlined a tentative agenda: department‑focused training in the morning (8:00–9:45 a.m.), a "county connect" session midmorning to early afternoon (10:00 or 11:00–11:45 a.m.) to explain how departments connect, lunch at the Paola Community Center (12:00–12:30 p.m.), and a customized communications and de‑escalation training from 12:45–3:30 p.m.
Denny said the committee will return to the commission later in the day to ask the commission to approve a resolution closing offices for that date and will continue refining the agenda. No formal resolution vote occurred during the study session.
