Shay Hanisak, regional coordinator for the Lake Region Solid Waste Authority, presented the authority's proposed 2026 budget and asked Miami County to include the Authority dues in the county's 2026 solid waste budget.
Hanisak said the presentation was provided as a courtesy to show how member dues are used and to give commissioners a breakdown of the authority's finances. "Each of the seven counties pays an equal share of $5,000," Hanisak said.
Commissioner Tyler Vaughn moved to include the Authority's $5,000 share in the county's solid waste fund for 2026; Commissioner Diedeker seconded the motion. The board voted unanimously to approve the inclusion.
Lucas Mellinger, assistant county administrator, told the board that the item would be part of the county's solid waste fund (fund 207) and that the county's formal budget adoption in August would serve as the final approval of the expense. The board's vote at the May 28 meeting authorized inclusion of the $5,000 dues in the draft 2026 solid waste budget, subject to the county's later budget adoption process.
The Lake Region Solid Waste Authority budget presentation covered broad budget timing and how the Authority allocates member dues; commissioners did not request additional changes or attach conditions to the inclusion. The presentation and the board's vote concluded without further public comment.
The county will finalize its 2026 budget as part of the regularly scheduled budget adoption process later this year.
