McPherson County OKs $7,442 purchase of computers for public works office

The McPherson County Board of Commissioners approved a purchase of four desktop computers and related monitors for the public works department, not to exceed $7,442.09.
David Barnabless, the county’s director of public works, told commissioners the buys are to equip two newly hired engineering technicians, to supply a promoted maintenance supervisor and to upgrade an out-of-warranty clerk machine. Barnabless said some other computers (asphalt plant and fuel system machines) are out of warranty and will need upgrades later; additional replacements are expected in the 2026 budget.
Barnabless said the expense will be paid from the Public Works fund. He noted that the department has rearranged older engineering and surveyor workstations as temporary workstations while positions remain in transition. Commissioners voted to approve the Dell Technologies quote and purchase, with the motion stating the amount is not to exceed $7,442.09.
No supplemental appropriation was requested at the meeting; Barnabless said the purchase would be paid from the department’s current fund balance and that more upgrades will come through the 2026 budget process.
