Committee approves Romanian Blouse Day resolution after heated debate; HR205 reported 16-10

The sponsor said recognizing the blouse would lift heritage tourism, support artists and traditions, and highlight contributions of Pennsylvania's Romanian community.
Chair James opposed the resolution on principle, calling many such resolutions "superfluous." "They do nothing noticeable for the advancement of Pennsylvania, which is why we are here in my estimation," Chair James said, and announced she would vote no.
Representative Peter Paredes pushed back on opposition, saying the resolution recognizes entrepreneurs and civic contributors in his district and invited colleagues to a two-day event in Berks County. Representative Jones also opposed the resolution, saying the committee cannot recognize "every single piece of everybody's culture" and that the chamber must prioritize legislative business.
After discussion, the committee proceeded to a roll call. The clerk read votes by name; the committee recorded 16 ayes and 10 nays. The resolution will be reported as committed and advance to the next step in the process.
