HARRISBURG — The House Tourism, Recreation and Economic Development Committee unanimously reported House Resolution 247, designating June 2025 as Golf Tourism Month in Pennsylvania.
Rep. McAndrews, the sponsor, described the economic footprint of major golf events and personal ties to local communities that benefit from tournament traffic. "We had estimates of 250,000 people going through the community ... We had an economic impact of over $200,000,000 estimated," McAndrews told the committee, referring to a recent U.S. Open regional impact tied to Oakmont and surrounding areas.
McAndrews and other supporters argued that golf events bring broad community benefits by creating short‑term employment and revenue for restaurants, hotels and other local businesses. "A lot of people ... had their kids parking cars or busing tables or, you know, bartending ... and restaurants and hotels ... came away profitable from this experience," he said.
Committee members including Chair James and others praised the measure, noting the state will host additional major events in coming years. After brief discussion, the committee took a roll call; the resolution passed 26–0 and will be reported as committed.
