Sandusky approves asbestos abatement change order and MOU to use lead-safe funds for demolition

The Sandusky City Commission on June 23 authorized two measures to remove hazardous or condemned residential structures. The measures were adopted under the city charter and take immediate effect.
First, the commission approved a first and final change order for Ed Berdue and Company LLC of Sandusky, Ohio, for asbestos abatement and demolition work at 937 West Washington Street in the amount of $28,750.25. The motion to adopt the ordinance was carried by roll call.
Second, the commission approved an ordinance authorizing the city manager to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Erie County Board of Health to use Ohio Lead Safe Home funds to demolish a condemned residential structure at 1528 Columbus Avenue. The measure also took effect immediately under the charter.
City officials presented both items as part of regular public-business agenda items. No substantive public comment was recorded on either item at the meeting. Commissioners moved and the ordinances were approved by roll call votes.
City staff will implement the abatement and demolition work with the contractor Ed Berdue and Company LLC for 937 West Washington and will coordinate with Erie County Board of Health on the use of Ohio Lead Safe Home funds for 1528 Columbus Avenue. The ordinances direct the manager to execute necessary agreements and authorize expenditures in the stated amounts.
