Committee approves maintenance contracts and MOAs; one member votes no over lead-stipend concern
Summary

The Fall River School Committee approved several maintenance-related items June 23, including negotiated contracts and memoranda of agreement addressing maintenance staffing, iPads, and two-way radios.
After closing part of the meeting in executive session to discuss labor and negotiation strategy, the committee returned to public session and accepted negotiated maintenance agreements, including an MOA covering iPads and a separate MOA on two-way radios as presented.
One committee member said he would vote against the maintenance contract package because, he said, the administration had not removed lead stipends in maintenance even though instructional lead stipends had been cut in a prior reorganization. He argued the committee previously agreed to reduce certain lead positions districtwide and that retaining multiple lead stipends in maintenance looked inconsistent and inappropriate. Other members supported approval, noting that the negotiated agreements addressed operational needs and that many of the details had been discussed in executive session.
The maintenance MOAs and related items passed on roll-call votes; one member recorded a “no” vote on at least one contract tally by citing the lead-stipend issue. Committee members asked staff to check consistent application of lead/stipend policy and to return with any needed clarifications.
