School committee approves livestream plan for subcommittees at 417 Rock Street starting this fall

The Fall River School Committee approved a plan June 23 to livestream all subcommittee meetings from 417 Rock Street starting in September, with staff to return with staffing and final cost estimates for any secondary locations.
Scott Cabral, chief information officer, said the technology subcommittee recommended using 417 Rock Street because it is already prewired from COVID-era work and would require limited additional wiring and equipment. Cabral said the plan aims to make subcommittee meetings accessible in the same way the city council livestreams its proceedings.
“We have a plan, but the plan would be to livestream all subcommittee meetings from 417 Rock Street moving forward starting this September,” Cabral said. The district will also investigate costs to outfit a secondary location, the CUS community room, to host full meetings if needed.
Committee members asked for a clearer accounting of ongoing personnel costs, and Cabral said the district expects to run subcommittees with two staff members per meeting (camera operator and live-stream manager) and will circulate a staffing and cost breakdown in a Friday email as a follow-up.
Some members supported immediate approval so staff could begin preparations for September; others asked for the written cost estimates before committing to purchases. The committee voted to approve the plan and authorized staff to proceed with preparations for a September start.
