Council approves salary amendments for jail staff, okays firearms training purchase

DuBois County Council on Monday approved a set of salary amendments requested by the sheriff’s office to reflect a recent promotion and long-standing position classifications, and authorized an additional firearms-training appropriation so the department could purchase ammunition before prices rise.

The sheriff’s office asked the council to amend pay lines after a recent promotion to road patrol sergeant and to move two jail officers from probationary to full jail-officer pay. "I'd rather do it now, especially with what's going on nationally," Monarchs said, citing rising ammunition costs. Council members voted to approve the $8,000 appropriation.
