Board approves $163,322 change order for Castle High School renovation after negotiations

The Warrick County School Corp board on June 23 approved a change order for the Castle High School renovation project, reducing an original request of $202,514 to a negotiated total of $163,322.50.
Dr. Redmond presented the change order and explained it covers four scopes of work — electrical, domestic water, sanitary and construction installation — with the final pricing reached after negotiations between the contractor and the architect. "The original change order request for this work totaled $202,514. Working together, we were able to arrive at a price of $163,322.50, of which an additional $1,005 will be recaptured through the architect architect contract," Dr. Redmond said.
A board member who serves on the construction committee said the committee vetted the figures and reduced the number from a much higher earlier estimate to the current negotiated amount. The motion to approve was made by Missus Wilhelmus and seconded by Mister France; the vote carried by voice.
Board members noted the renovation involves a roughly 50-year-old building and that change orders are common in such projects. No further financial contingencies or schedule impacts beyond the negotiated scope were specified during the discussion.
