Commission approves $26,250 change order for Clay County bridge deck repairs

The Clay County Commission approved change order No. 1 for Road and Bridge project 25‑1RB108, adding work and cost to the Decker Construction Services contract for deck repairs on the Northeast 100 and 40th Street bridge over Clear Creek.

Road and Bridge Director Tom Degenhardt told the commission the contract’s Portland cement concrete patching quantity must increase from 525 square feet to 1,725 square feet after an additional freeze–thaw cycle caused more deck delamination. Because of the substantial increase in quantity, Decker Construction negotiated a lower unit price, dropping from $51.20 to $30.80 per square foot, producing a net contract increase of $26,250 for the item and overall contract.

Commissioner Johnson moved to approve resolution 2025.179 to authorize the change order. The roll call recorded Commissioners Johnson, Wagner, Thompson, Carpenter, Whittington and Lawson all voting in favor; the motion passed 6‑0.
