La Paz County approves purchase of three 2024 Ford F-150 police pickups under state contract

The La Paz County Board of Supervisors on June 16 approved the purchase of three 2024 Ford F-150 police interceptor pickup trucks from Peoria Ford under state contract CTR059322 for $150,156.22627, a budgeted end-of-year expense for the sheriff's office.
The request came from the sheriff, who told the board the department was on a time crunch because the fiscal year was ending and previous efforts to secure the vehicles locally had not succeeded. "We are requesting the purchase of these vehicles because we are on a time crunch," the sheriff said, adding that council had advised the purchase must be on a state contract. He said he had attempted to use a local vendor but that their ability to sell under the state contract had expired.
County procurement staff and Karen Ziegler, who assisted the sheriff on procurement, clarified the procurement path. Ziegler said La Paz County is a coop member able to purchase from the state contract with Peoria Ford, and that subcontractors (for example, Parker Motors) must be listed on the state contract to be used. "Parker Motors...their subcontract agreement expired...they are not specifically listed as a subcontractor, so we can't go through them to purchase that vehicle," Ziegler said.
Board members raised the county preference to buy locally but recognized legal and timing constraints described by staff and the sheriff. After discussion the board moved and seconded approval of the consent agenda item authorizing the purchase under the state contract; the motion carried.
The board packet identifies the purchase as a budgeted item and lists the vendor and contract number; county staff confirmed the purchase was made via the state contract because a local subcontractor was not currently listed. The board did not adopt any additional direction to change procurement policy during the meeting.
The approved purchase will proceed under the terms of the state contract; county staff and the sheriff said they will continue looking for opportunities to buy locally in future procurements when subcontractor status and timelines permit.
