City highlights parks programs, ‘Plan Forward’ equipment lockers and weekly events

City staff and council members reviewed recent and planned community events and programs aimed at increasing free recreational opportunities and community connectivity.
The city clerk reminded residents of the Park After Dark sports night, a free—open-to-all event that pairs local high-school coaches and athletes with stations and free play for all ages. Staff also noted a social-media giveaway tied to Parks & Recreation accounts offering event tickets as incentives for followers.
Community development staff described a new "Plan Forward" campaign funded in part by a $1,500 donation from the Lions Club. "With that money, we are putting two lockers out, one at Star and one at Lebrite to hold any definitely used sports equipment for the community to either borrow while they're at the park or take home," the community development director said. The lockers are intended to store donated sports equipment for community use and borrowing.
Staff also reported on a newly launched downtown farmers market and recurring Friday evening programming (Park After Dark) that have drawn positive feedback from residents and council members. Council members repeatedly thanked staff for event organization and said they had heard strong community enthusiasm.
Parks & Recreation staff and partners plan to continue weekly events through at least September and to expand giveaways and community partnerships that support free access to recreation. Staff said they will return with details as pilot programs and locker deployments proceed.
