Summary
The commission approved Resolution R25018 appointing Taylor Kennedy to a two-year term on the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority board; staff described Kennedy’s water engineering background and long-term local ties.
The commission adopted Resolution R25018 on second reading to appoint Taylor Kennedy to a two-year term on the Board of Directors of the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority (CRMWA), with the term beginning Aug. 1, 2025, and ending July 31, 2027.
Gary (identified in the meeting as a city representative) told the commission that Jerry Carlson, a long-serving CRMWA board member, is retiring after about 47½ years of service. Gary said Taylor Kennedy recently moved back to Pampa, has a degree in water engineering, has worked in the water industry across Texas and is “homegrown,” with family ties to the community.
The commission moved and seconded the resolution; the motion carried by voice vote. Commissioners noted CRMWA meets quarterly and that Jerry Carlson will be honored at an upcoming CRMWA meeting.
Why it matters: CRMWA oversees regional water projects and studies that bear on the city’s long-term water supply. During the meeting staff discussed ongoing CRMWA work including salinity studies for Lake Meredith, possible desalination options, a buried alluvial aquifer concept, and a proposed pipeline project (“Cromwell 2”) that could bring additional groundwater nearer the city’s treatment plant.
Ending: staff said the next CRMWA meeting is July 17 at main headquarters and that member cities will honor Jerry Carlson for his decades of service.
