The commission voted to award a 2½-year contract for mowing and limited maintenance of selected city parks to Sandbur Irrigation and Landscaping, staff said. The contract begins July 1 and runs through December 2027.
Luke, a city staff member, summarized the competitive process: two firms bid the work (Sandbur and HSB Services), with Sandbur submitting the lower bid. The contract covers primarily smaller pocket parks — many under a quarter-acre — and will include mowing, some weed spraying, minor trash pickup and edging where specified. Staff required bagging at two locations (City Hall and the H2O Waterpark) to avoid clippings entering water features.
Luke said the city’s parks crew will continue to handle the larger parks and that Sandbur’s work supplements city crews to keep visible, small parks maintained. The contract includes approximately 28 mowings annually, with more activity concentrated in peak growing months.
The commission moved and seconded the award; the motion carried by voice vote.
