Residents urge pause and clearer notices for Braun/Brown Road developments

Several Mount Pleasant residents used the public-comment period on June 23 to press the village for clearer notice and a more deliberate review of multiple proposed developments along Braun (Brown) Road and nearby areas.

Steven Nason (resident) said he moved into the Regent subdivision 18 years ago expecting single-family homes and expressed that new medium- or high-density projects proposed immediately behind his neighborhood would "make me sad" and "I don't want to lose" the quiet character of his street. Tony Martino (resident) said notices sent to neighbors and public packets were confusing and listed multiple zoning changes without clear addresses; he told the board he did not believe the issue was a "small address issue" and urged the village to tighten notice procedures and consider amendments to the comprehensive plan. "We need to look at these projects that are being proposed along Braun, not as individuals, but as wholes," Martino said, adding concerns about infrastructure, utility extensions, sidewalks and safety for homes close to the road.

Jennifer Watt (resident) reiterated drainage and right-of-way concerns tied to nearby subdivisions and said she had raised related matters with village staff previously. Board members and planning commissioners acknowledged the comments: Chair and trustees said the matter had been discussed by the planning commission and that rezones and major projects will continue to be reviewed with public hearings.

This item was part of the public-comment period (not a formal public hearing) and no board action was taken during the remarks; the public hearing on the specific zoning items was postponed earlier in the meeting and rescheduled for July 28, 2025, after staff identified a notice/address error. Residents asked for stronger, clearer mailed and posted notices and for the village to address comprehensive-plan implications before permitting multiple adjacent higher-density projects.
