The Buena Park School District governing board approved an amendment to Superintendent Dr. Julian Lee’s employment agreement, extending his contract one additional year through June 20, 2028, and approved employment agreements for assistant superintendents during Wednesday’s meeting, the board announced.
Before taking action, the board read the Brown Act–required oral summaries of the employment terms into the public record. For Dr. Lee’s amendment, the summary stated: the contract term is extended through 06/20/2028; 24 vacation days provided each year with a maximum carryover of 44 days and payout for accrued days above 44 at year end; a $500 monthly auto allowance in lieu of mileage reimbursement; and alignment with Government Code limits on maximum district payout. The board then opened the item for discussion; trustees offered thanks to the superintendent for his leadership and asked for a motion. The motion carried by roll-call vote, 5–0.
The board also approved an employment agreement for Sari (Sarah) Huang as assistant superintendent for educational services with terms to commence 07/01/2025 through 06/30/2028, an annual salary of $214,781 with step increase beginning 07/01/2026, 22 vacation days per year with accrual up to 44 days, and a $500 monthly auto allowance in lieu of mileage reimbursement. The board read the same Brown Act summary language and then approved the agreement by unanimous vote.
A similar employment agreement for Sandra Poteet as assistant superintendent for business and operational services was approved with identical term dates, salary and benefits as presented in the oral summary. Each employment action was moved, seconded and approved by roll-call; trustee Shedd participated remotely. Board minutes record each motion as passing 5–0.
The board’s public reading and votes complied with Government Code section 54953(c)(3), as stated when the items were presented.
