Court accepts HAVA funds, names elections administrator as state point of contact to speed results reporting

The Aransas County Commissioners Court approved a resolution to accept Help America Vote Act (HAVA) funds and designated a single point of contact for the Secretary of State and grant administration, naming Elections Administrator Kevin Stroud to that role.
Kevin Stroud told the court the funding will not change voting processes at polling places but will support back‑end processes that help the office produce results more quickly and assist in recount scenarios. Stroud referenced last year’s primary when results and recount work extended vote reporting late into the night and said HAVA resources will help expedite backend processing.
As part of the motion, the court authorized the county judge or the county elections administrator to execute required documents and to certify Open Meetings Act compliance where required. The court also discussed the need to designate who the state requires as the single point of contact and seconded an amendment making the elections administrator the contact.
