Elizabeth SD pursues temporary Frontier roof repair, schedules summer site work

Elizabeth School District officials said the district will pursue a short-term repair to stop leaks at the Frontier building and complete several summer facility projects, including partial repairs to a middle-school parking lot and crushed-asphalt surfacing of the district bus lot.
District staff described an engineering review and contractor bids for the Frontier roof, and said a roofer has agreed to perform a repair with a three-year commitment. The district reported a full roof replacement estimate of about $1,200,000 and a previous partial-repair bid of $790,000; staff said the new repair approach is substantially less costly and they hope it will be completed by July 15.
Superintendent-level staff (identified in the meeting transcript as a district presenter) said the Frontier building is important to the district’s homeschool program and partner organization Legacy, and that the short-term repair is intended to provide a “dry shell” while larger, longer-term work with the University of Colorado Denver and DOLA (the Colorado Department of Local Affairs) is planned.
In addition to the Frontier work, staff detailed other summer projects. A contractor will begin partial repairs to the Bridals (middle) School parking lot on July 1; staff said a full repaving would cost about $300,000, so the district will address the worst areas and potholes rather than repave the entire lot. The district also contracted to place crushed asphalt, compacted and sealed, on the dirt bus lot to reduce ruts from increased partner traffic; that work was scheduled for the next three weeks. Elizabeth Middle School has received interior painting, which facilities director Andrew Rodriguez led, and staff said the repainting should brighten the building before the next school year.
District staff said they are monitoring potential mold in leaking areas and testing through the summer; they said there is no current evidence of mold but that monitoring will continue while the work is scheduled and completed.
Board members did not vote on the Frontier repair at the meeting; staff said they are pursuing the contractor and will report back when a firm contract and date are available.
The board paused for a brief recess after the recognitions and resumed to take up these items.
