Streator approves site-grant for Schulz Funeral Services to renovate former McGrath property

The Streator City Council voted to grant a site-grant to Schulz Funeral Services for work at the former McGrath property on Elizabeth Place.

A staff speaker told the council the planning commission had made a unanimous recommendation to approve the grant. “It was unanimous recommendation, from the planning commission last week, for recommending approval of the grant to, the Schultz Funeral Services, through the former McGrath site,” the staff speaker said; the council asked that the minutes note the planning commission recommendation had been included in the meeting packet even though it was inadvertently left off the agenda.

The exterior work described in the meeting packet includes repainting the front of the building, redoing the existing entranceway, replacing or installing new metal roofing, installing signage, replacing the entry door and several windows, and work on a garage door on the building’s north end. No dollar amount for the grant was given in the discussion.

Council member Danko moved the resolution (listed in the agenda as Resolution 2025-26); Council member Shire seconded. The roll-call vote recorded Danko, Gary, Reid and Shire as voting “aye.” The motion passed.

The council’s action approved the grant and directed that the planning commission recommendation be reflected in the meeting record; the council did not discuss or adopt a specific funding source or program year numbers at the meeting.
