Peoria County approves rezoning for Gensini Excavating to locate heavy-industrial operations

Peoria County’s zoning body unanimously approved rezoning 8.28 acres to allow Gensini Excavating LLC to locate contractor operations, outdoor equipment storage and concrete recycling.
The rezoning request (ZBA-2025-0030) would change the parcel from C-2 General Commercial to I-2 Heavy Industrial. Andrew, a county staff member who presented the case, said the subject property at 7600 North Kickapoo Edwards Road in Kickapoo Township sits near the I‑74 Kickapoo‑Edwards interchange; staff and the Zoning Board of Appeals recommended approval unanimously.
According to the presentation, the current and previous property owners had used the site for equipment storage and concrete recycling for more than 10 years. Jimmy asked whether the action was also intended to bring the property into compliance after earlier gravel‑crushing activity. Andrew said Iron Husker Excavating had previously operated at the site for about 10 or 11 years and that the property’s zoning did not previously permit outdoor storage. Rezoning to I‑2 will allow outdoor storage and the construction of a new building.
The file shows one consent and zero objections on record. With no further questions, the board voted and the motion carried unanimously.
