Peoria County panel approves rezoning to expand Akron Services' farm-supply operations

Peoria County’s zoning body voted unanimously to rezone 14 acres of an 85.5-acre parcel to allow expansion of Akron Services Incorporated.
The rezoning (ZBA-2025-0031) moves the parcel from A-1 Agricultural Preservation to I-1 Light Industrial to permit an expanded facility, including a scale and office building, additional shop space, truck parking and a chemical storage building at 17705 North Elevator Road. Staff recommended approval, and the Zoning Board of Appeals recommended approval unanimously.
Andrew, a county staff member who presented the case, said the owner has operated the business in Peoria County for more than 60 years and is seeking the additional acreage specifically to expand services and improve safety and efficiency for commercial farm clients. The petitioner on the file is Tim Wagenbach.
The chair called for a motion to put the case on the floor; Marsha moved and Dan seconded. With no further questions from board members, the board voted and the motion passed unanimously.
The decision permits the owner to pursue the site improvements described in the application; no further conditions or amendments were recorded in the meeting minutes.
