Council approves geotechnical work to advance soccer-field lighting at Palmer and Dublin

The Madison City Council on Dec. 9 approved a professional services agreement with Gtech LLC to provide geotechnical engineering services for planned sports-field lighting projects.
Recreation staff said the city budgeted for field lighting and that the work covers testing and geotechnical analysis for two fields at Palmer and one at Dublin. Staff told the council the lights are intended to extend usable hours for multiple sports, including soccer, lacrosse and ultimate Frisbee.
Council members asked about demand for evening field time and were told demand is strong and year-round, with daylight ending early in winter limiting play. The resolution was approved by voice vote with recorded “aye” responses from Council member Robleski, Council member Shaw, Council president Seaford, Council member Bartlett and Council member Denzine.
Recreation staff listed the geotechnical agreement as the first step toward full installation of field lighting; further design and procurement steps will follow once subsurface conditions are documented.
