Lee's Summit R-VII staff recommended renewing employee-benefit consulting and brokerage services with CBIZ after an RFP process that drew eight proposals, the finance committee heard June 23.
Dr. Herzog, who introduced the item, said CBIZ outscored competitors by a wide margin, including in cost. "CBIZ was the highest score by a large margin, 20 points," Herzog said. Sarah McMillan summarized services that stood out in CBIZ's proposal: dedicated subject-matter experts, experience with employer-sponsored health centers, ACA compliance support and retiree/COBRA administration.
The nut graf: The committee received detail that CBIZ’s team structure and K–12 experience matched the district’s needs for a complex and high-touch benefits program; staff recommended award based on scoring and service fit.
McMillan told the committee CBIZ offers experience with self-insurance models and a breadth of resources the district currently uses. She said the firm’s service team size and structure were well suited to the district’s needs and that CBIZ led in cost in the RFP evaluation.
Committee members asked no further questions; staff said they were available to answer follow-up questions from the committee or the board.
Ending: The committee advanced the staff recommendation to award benefits consulting services to CBIZ; the contract will proceed through the board approval process.
