The City Commission asked staff to review a proposal for a citywide youth chorus and return with details before any contract is issued.
Commissioner Joseph said he submitted a petition with 75 parent signatures supporting a city orchestra or chorus and said music teacher Sheila Schreidenberg is preparing a proposal outlining sessions, compensation, and performance schedules. "She's arranging a proposal regarding how much we might be able to charge the parents," Joseph said.
Staff described past experience with the instructor: low enrollment for a prior music club and some facility rule violations that led to termination of a contract in fall 2024. Susan, a commissioner, told the panel she had seen successful presentations by the teacher and supported exploring the program again. Commissioners stressed that staff should evaluate demand, space availability, prior enrollment history, and program rules before returning a formal recommendation.
No contract or budget allocation was approved; commissioners asked staff to review the proposal and bring a recommended structure and budget inclusion to a future meeting.
