Commission approves police fitness equipment and three new vehicles using budgeted and forfeiture funds

The City Commission approved several companion items authorizing the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department to expend funds for fitness equipment and to purchase three vehicles.
Resolution 9b authorized the police chief to expend federal Department of Justice forfeiture funds for fitness equipment; companion item 9c approved an agreement with Fitness Showrooms of Long Island to supply and install the equipment. Police Chief Edward Santiago told the commission the purchases will build out a departmental gym. "These 2 companion items...allow us to expend Department of Justice funds to build out a space as a gym for our police department," the chief said.
Separately, the commission approved a resolution to purchase two Ford F-150s and one Ford Explorer from Bartle Ford, using budgeted funds intended to replace and replenish the fleet. The city manager explained the procurement was timed in part to lock in vehicle pricing ahead of anticipated increases.
All items were approved by voice vote at the meeting. Commissioners noted administrative follow-up steps such as ensuring recalled-vehicle software updates (backup-camera recall) are addressed prior to deployment.
No public speakers registered on those items and the purchases will be executed under the contracts and purchase orders authorized by the commission.
