Elmsford mayor proclaims weeks recognizing public works, water, EMS and building safety

Mayor Bill Nelson used the board meeting to issue four proclamations recognizing municipal service weeks, citing the essential work of crews and inspectors.

The proclamations named May 18–24 as Public Works Week, May 11–17 as Water Week, a week in May for EMS Week, and May 2–6 as Building Safety Week. Nelson thanked individual staff for their service, including highway foreman Brian Balatoni, EMS Chief Nelson Diaz and building inspector Antonio Cabocaro.

The proclamations set themes for each observance. On Public Works Week, Nelson said, “This year's public works week theme is people, purpose, presence.” For Water Week he said, “This year's Water Week theme is the power of water.” He described the EMS recognition as intended to highlight “the dedication and compassion of EMS professionals who serve communities and patients every day,” and said Building Safety Week “stresses the importance of occupying safe buildings as the general public lives, works, or plays there.”

The mayor and trustees framed the proclamations as symbolic recognitions rather than regulatory actions; no vote or ordinance accompanied the announcements. The board thanked employees by name and noted the weeks are intended to draw attention to routine services that support daily life in the village.

The proclamations were presented during the agenda item for presentations and recognitions and followed remarks thanking staff for prior work this year. Village officials did not attach budget actions, ordinances or directives to the proclamations during the meeting.

The recognitions cited staff across departments: Brian Balatoni for highway/public works; Nelson Diaz for EMS; and Antonio Cabocaro for building inspection. The mayor asked residents to observe the weeks and acknowledged the roles those departments play in public safety and infrastructure maintenance.
