Trustees discuss parking changes on South Hillside Avenue; sunset provision debated

Trustees reviewed proposed parking changes on the east side of South Hillside Avenue during the June 2 work session and discussed whether to remove an existing sunset provision for a related no-parking subsection set to expire Dec. 31, 2025.

A trustee (Speaker 1) described the change as a short stretch—"about 90 feet up" from Main Street—designed to give cars and buses room to align before the traffic light. "The reason for that was on Friday, it comes one lane, and the cars and buses, especially coming down the hill, are over the other line," Speaker 1 said. The adjustment is intended to help commercial vehicles get into the correct lane and reduce encroachment into residential areas.

Speaker 2 noted that a no-parking provision labeled "subsection FF" currently has an expiration date of Dec. 31, 2025, and suggested removing the sunset so the restriction would remain in place. "There's only one that... it says it expires 12/31/2025. That's the no parking one," Speaker 2 said. Trustees discussed updating the ordinance language to remove the sunset and to add a commercial-vehicle restriction elsewhere in the draft.

No formal motion or vote was recorded at the work session. The discussion included questions about parking for commercial vehicles in the village's light-industry zone and concerns about trucks parking in residential areas. Trustees also referenced related signage and labeling tasks; staff were asked to follow up as part of ordinance drafting and labeling work.
