San Benito CISD presents end‑of‑year academic report: dual enrollment, recognitions and gains highlighted

San Benito CISD presented its 2024–25 end‑of‑year academic report at the May 14 board meeting, highlighting growth in college‑and‑career measures, expanded dual‑enrollment participation, rising industry‑based certifications and several statewide and national campus recognitions.
Assistant Superintendent (Academics) Miss Cornett summarized initiatives across assessment, instruction, special populations, professional development, counseling and CTE. Among the data points she cited: College Board National Recognition Scholars rose from 24 last year to 61 this year; students completing associate degrees increased from 14 to 18; individual dual‑enrollment course enrollments rose from about 926 to 1,138 (an increase of 212 courses) while the number of participating students rose from 219 to 313 (an increase of 94 students). In career and technical education, the district reported 998 industry‑based certificates this year versus 409 in 2023–24, an increase the presenter described as 589 certificates.
Cornett also highlighted early‑childhood work: the district’s pre‑K‑3 program showed growth on benchmark measures, with the number of students “on track” in the cited phonological‑awareness and math measures rising from 55 at the beginning of the year to 84 by year’s end. The district noted steady growth on NWEA MAP reading and math measures and said final STAAR results were pending at the time of the report.
The academic office pointed to districtwide recognitions including two campuses named to the ERP National Honor Roll and multiple schools being designated Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase schools; Cornett said 12 schools in the district implemented the Capturing Kids’ Hearts program and the district was recognized as a national showcase district.
Superintendent Perez and several trustees praised staff and noted that budget work for next year would begin soon. Perez acknowledged the district’s ongoing work on compensation and said he would continue to seek state and local opportunities to support raises; he reiterated that summer is the time administration prepares budgets and compensation proposals. During public comment earlier in the meeting, Mary Meany thanked district staff and praised stipend increases for after‑school program staff; she urged continued attention to stipends and pay.
Board members and administrators framed the report as evidence of intentional systems building across early childhood, secondary transitions, dual enrollment, CTE and special populations. The district said it will continue to refine instructional supports and return to the board with final STAAR results and implementation plans tied to the data presented.
