District delays Bainbridge camera upgrade after board requests more bids, wants security adviser involved

The board’s facilities discussion on June 10 centered on proposed replacement of 14 aging security cameras at Bainbridge Elementary. Director of Operations Tom Strickler and the technology team presented an initial vendor estimate and said the existing cameras are near end‑of‑life, intermittently disconnecting from the district’s ExacqVision system and are no longer under warranty.
Ted (technology lead) and others explained the technical rationale: the old cameras drop data, sometimes require power cycling, and run on non‑switching UPS battery backups; the proposed replacements would be compatible with the current server and aim to reduce downtime. Administrators said they had one budgetary quote and had requested additional site visits and proposals from other vendors to compare technology, redundancy and pricing.
Board members expressed concern about the quoted scope and cost, urged the administration to secure three bids and asked that the district security adviser be involved in camera placement decisions. Director Strickler said several vendors must tour campus sites and that collecting three competitive bids would likely push the procurement to the August meeting; the board agreed to delay formal approval pending additional quotes and a review of single‑site versus district‑wide upgrade options.
Administrators noted tradeoffs between higher uptime (redundant hardware) and cost and said the most expensive quote would improve resilience but increase the capital outlay. No contract was approved at the workshop; the administration will seek additional proposals and return with a clarified scope and bid comparisons for a future meeting.
