Trustee Stan Brown and Trustee Cleo said the Dolton Park District welcomed back a traveling baseball and softball event at Dolton Park, 721 East, aiming to revive youth baseball and promote community unity.
“This is unity in the community,” Trustee Cleo said, adding that teams from nearby places were participating. Trustee Stan Brown said he and Cleo had coached traveling and boys baseball teams in the past and now, as elected officials, were working to “bring some back to the community, continue baseball because baseball is a dance sport for the black community.”
Organizers described the gathering as a multi-team softball and baseball event that included 16-year softball and adult play. Cleo said the Southland softball organization was present at Dolton Park at 721 East. Brown and Cleo said they expected concessions and a large turnout of young players and adults.
Speakers named several participating places during remarks, including Calumet City, Dixon, Phoenix and others. The presenters described the event as meant to reconnect young players with organized play and provide a recreational opportunity for area residents.
The remarks were presented as an announcement; no motions, votes or formal board actions were discussed in the provided transcript excerpts.
