Cross Creek Early College High School held a commencement ceremony for the Class of 2025 that included the national anthem, speeches from school leaders and student valedictorian and salutatorian remarks, presentation of Latin honors and the formal conferral of diplomas.
The program opened with the national anthem performed by student Zia Smith and remarks from assistant principal Lakeisha Bradley McCabe, who welcomed families, faculty and guests. Cumberland County Board of Education members Deanna Jones (chair), Judy Musgrave (vice chair), Dolores Bell, Jacqueline Brown, Jackie Warner and Susan Williams were introduced, along with Cumberland County Schools leaders including Superintendent Marvin Connolly Jr., Chief Academic Officer Milada Hill and other district administrators.
Principal Chris Qualing addressed graduates and thanked parents, teachers and staff for supporting students. Salutatorian Trevor Mayfield Jr. and valedictorian Leila Anderson delivered commencement addresses reflecting on personal growth and the class’s achievements. School counselor Gina Hickle presented Latin honors: magna cum laude was defined as a GPA of 4.0 to 4.249 and summa cum laude as a GPA of 4.25 or higher. Graduates were presented individually as names were read.
The ceremony concluded with the announcement that the Class of 2025 had met graduation requirements set by the North Carolina Department of Instruction and the Cumberland County Board of Education, followed by the traditional turning of tassels and recessional.
