At a special called meeting, Bluff City’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved moving funds back into the water and sewer account to correct transfers identified in a recent audit.
Officials said the move responds to a finding noted when Rutherford Moss appeared before the board: money had been moved out of the water and sewer fund into the general fund in prior years and needs to be restored before the fiscal-year end of June 30. The board approved a single-reading authorization to make the exchange.
During discussion board members referred to figures during the conversation, including $72,000 and $53,000, but speakers did not consistently identify which specific amounts would be restored in that motion. Staff indicated the board needs to return the referenced funds to the water and sewer fund to satisfy the audit finding.
A motion to approve the transfer was made and seconded; the roll call included recorded yes votes by Alderman Hussain and Alderman Johnson and the chair announced the motion approved.
The vote item was presented as a single-reading action to correct the accounting for past transfers; staff said the correction must be completed by the end of the fiscal year to address the audit finding.
