At the June 17 meeting the Alamo Heights Board of Trustees heard progress reports on the district's target areas for 2025'26, with administrators highlighting academic rigor, college-career-military readiness (CCMR) and staff recruitment and retention as priorities.
Jimmy Walker (presenting academic pillars) reviewed goals tied to assessment and growth: maintain 90% of students at "approaches" or higher on STAR and MAP, reduce the 2021 achievement gap by half, and ensure 85% of students make one year's worth of growth in each course or subject-area assessment. Walker said district staff are finalizing data and that STAR scores had been emailed to parents the same day.
On CCMR goals, presenters said the district aims for 90% of graduating students to be college-, career- or military-ready by expanding industry-based certification opportunities, dual-credit pathways that could produce up to 60 college hours, and additional SAT/ACT/PSAT supports. The district said it is hiring a new college counselor and expanding senior bridge courses for students who need college readiness support.
Trustees also received a staffing and retention update. District leaders said they aim to keep turnover below the state average and below 10%, monitor staff satisfaction via surveys, and pursue low-cost retention initiatives. The district is entering a validation phase for its teacher-instructional-assessment (TIA) process to ensure observation and compensation procedures are valid before using them for pay designations.
The target-area presentations are part of an annual process that district staff said begins with trustee input in spring and results in focused work areas for the following school year. Trustees asked questions about implementation and data timelines and directed staff to continue calibration and professional learning work in support of the targets.
Staff asked the board to expect additional data and implementation details at upcoming meetings and during the 2025'26 year.
