County staff told commissioners CAS has produced multiple appropriations for the county over the past four years, including $6,250,000 for an emergency operations center (EOC), $750,000 for a fire engine and $800,000 for library design services. A commissioner urged keeping the firm because "we get a humongous return on the people's money," and moved to waive procurement requirements and renew the contract.
Staff said final contract details, including term length, would be negotiated and returned to the board for formal approval. A commissioner asked whether the board could renew for a multiyear term; staff said they would take direction and confirm CAS's willingness to similar terms and bring an agreement back for board action.
The motion to waive procurement and renew with the current provider passed 5-0. No dollar amount or new term was approved at the meeting; staff will return with a proposed contract for formal board approval.
