Board approves international trip planning and eighth-grade Washington, D.C., trip

The Estill County Board of Education on June 19 approved district permission to explore an international student trip in 2027 (Switzerland, Italy and Paris) and separately approved an eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C.
Both votes were unanimous. The international trip item was described as approval to research and potentially travel with a third-party educational-tour company; staff said fundraisers would be used so multiple students could participate. The board recorded a 5-0 vote to allow staff to explore the international itinerary for 2027.
The board also approved the 2025–26 eighth-grade out-of-state trip to Washington, D.C., noting the trip requires board approval because it is out of state.
"It's my recommendation we approve," a staff member said when presenting the international trip option. Board members noted fundraising and student access would be handled through standard district processes. Each item passed on a motion and second and with recorded unanimous approval.
