Board hears five-year strategic plan, adopts slogan ‘Soaring together’ and program priorities

Superintendent Dustin told the Board of Education the district now has a finalized five-year strategic plan and an adopted slogan: “Soaring together, building relationships that reach new heights.”

Dustin said the strategic-planning committee and board prioritized branding the plan and rolling out Year 1 action plans at the building level. “We now have a solid plan for the next five years with two overarching strategic priorities and then goals that that will lie underneath those,” he said, adding appreciation for committee feedback.
Program and budget items tied to the plan received updates. Staff reported continued funding for college courses, continuation of preschool meals under the Community Eligibility Program for at least the coming year, and an added line to start supporting a therapy-dog program. Transportation software to improve routing efficiency and family communication is being purchased, and the district expects to add a secondary math teacher and a special-education teacher in coming years subject to placement review and need.
Extended Learning Time (ELT) remains funded for this year, but staff said they are monitoring state and federal decisions about future ELT support. The superintendent said he has contacted local legislative offices for information on ELT funding and that those offices have been responsive. School-business staff Jen noted the district has been approved under the Community Eligibility Program for the next five years, and administrators said they will continue monitoring state guidance that references continuation of free meals.
Staff said Year 1 building plans are intended to establish groundwork and that significant budgetary impacts would be more likely in later years as priorities are refined and if the board decides to fund additional initiatives.
