Dearborn County commissioners voted June 17 to approve a ServiceMaster contract to repair the roof and interior of the Yes Home for a total of $98,855.90.
The approval follows a review by the county's insurance carrier, which had deemed earlier quotes high and requested a comparable estimate. County Administrator Sue Aden said ServiceMaster submitted a combined roof and interior estimate the insurer approved. “ServiceMaster came back with the roof estimate at $77,408.58 and the interior at $21,047.32 for a total of $98,855.90,” Aden said.
Aden and other officials said the Yes Home is listed on the historic register, and repair work must match original materials. Aden said the historic-match requirement contributed to costs and that Bill Shelton reviewed specifications and offered to periodically inspect progress. “That added a little bit to the cost, and we wanted to make sure that happened,” she said.
The treasurer and staff clarified insurance and out-of-pocket responsibility: the transcript records that the Yes Home will pay a stated deductible; the insurance company will pay the remainder. Aden said the insurance company “has approved that amount” and that it would not come out of county pocket funds. Commissioners moved and seconded a motion to approve the ServiceMaster bid for the roof and interior for $98,855.90; the motion carried.
Staff said ServiceMaster will not schedule work until the county signs a repair-work authorization. Aden said she would have the document signed and scanned to ServiceMaster so the company could expedite scheduling. The board also discussed shingles, color, and historic details with staff and agreed to move forward.
The vote authorizes staff to finalize the contract and to proceed with repairs once the repair-work authorization is executed and returned to ServiceMaster.
