The DeSoto County School District Board of Education approved the purchase of brand-specific Apple educational products and authorized staff to enter a contract with Apple Inc., trustees said.
Mister Williams, staff member, told the board that bids for Apple products were opened May 16 and that Apple Inc. was the identified vendor. “Bids were opened on May 16 for the purchase of brand specific educational Apple products for the district due to the fact that Apple Inc. is the only tender that DeSoto County School is legally allowed to purchase Apple brand items from,” he said. The board moved and approved the bid and then separately approved entering into a contractual agreement with Apple.
The motions were made, seconded and approved by voice vote; the public record in the transcript does not include a roll-call tally or contract dollar amounts. The board did not discuss alternative vendors for non-Apple devices in the recorded remarks.
Next steps: staff were authorized to proceed with the contract procurement process with Apple Inc. and to complete purchases under the approved bid; specific contract terms and dollar amounts were not read into the public record during this session.
