City manager outlines finance, bids, hiring, summer events and parking-lot seal coating

City Manager Theresa Whitnauer gave a multi-item report to the Princeton City Council covering finances, projects, hiring and summer events.
Whitnauer said the council packet includes the April 2025 financial report, which she described as the final month of the budget year but not yet fully final because revenues may still come in. She said sales-tax months vary and that the hotel-motel tax year-to-date looks favorable. On short-term rentals (Airbnb/short-term rental collection), Whitnauer said collection compliance has risen to “about 90%” and “probably about 95% now,” which she estimated produced roughly $10,000 in additional revenue.
Whitnauer announced an invitation to bid for an MSP project and other general-fund projects with bid opening scheduled for the 24th, and she said the city has street work planned this summer. In the council packet she reported there are “roughly a little over a 100,000 700,000 in street projects coming up this summer,” a figure she stated verbally but did not clarify numerically in the packet at the meeting.
The city is recruiting for a lineman apprentice position (application window closing Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.) and a Street Department Operator I position (selection continuing through Friday), Whitnauer said.
Whitnauer also previewed a special council meeting June 26 for a fire-department staffing study (see separate story). She said department leaders will present phased implementation options and capital estimates at that session.
Victoria (city events staff) described the first Main Street concert on Friday featuring May Estes; food vendors open at 5 p.m., the performance begins shortly after 6 p.m., and a number of weekend events including a chamber “shop late” event and the beef-and-egg festival were noted. Whitnauer later announced seal-coating work for two municipal parking lots behind Downtown Pub and Spoons will take place the week of June 23 but was pushed one week; the city will seal-coat half the lot at a time to avoid full closures.
No formal council action was required for these informational items. Councilmembers asked clarifying questions and thanked staff for the updates.
