Board approves 18 podiatric residency programs; reports licensure and renewal counts

The Podiatric Medical Board of California on June 18, 2025, approved 18 California postgraduate podiatric residency programs and reviewed third‑quarter licensure and renewal statistics, board staff said.

Board licensing staff said the approvals aim to finalize program authorizations for the 2025–26 academic year and summarized recent licensure activity. Andrea, licensing program staff, told the board, “There were 29 newly licensed DPMs with 29 pending applications and 3 candidates that recently completed their package.” She said renewals for the quarter included 292 renewals with 267 licenses renewed in that period and that the board’s residency list now totals 133 licensees in rotation.

The board’s licensing committee met May 7 and recommended approval for 18 separate California postgraduate clinical training programs for the 2025–26 academic year, Andrea said. The board moved to accept the committee’s recommendation and the motion passed.

The staff also reported on out‑of‑state and residency applicant counts: “PPC has 22 applicants from out of state, 20 are third year residents from California, and 18 are third year residents from our trustee program,” Andrea said. Staff noted three licensees had a 2025 wildfire renewal deferral modifier that postponed their renewal fee for one year.

Board members asked procedural questions about creating or participating in residency programs; the board did not take additional regulatory action during the meeting beyond accepting the committee’s recommendations.

The board approved the residency program recommendations and accepted the licensing report. The board’s next regularly scheduled meeting date was announced during the session.
