Shelter Rock celebrates Class of 2025 at sixth-grade promotional ceremony

Shelter Rock School held its sixth-grade promotional ceremony for the Class of 2025 on Wednesday, with school and district leaders, student council officers, teachers and families in attendance to mark students’ transition to middle school.
The event, presented by the Manhasset Union Free School District, opened in the school auditorium with the color guard and the Shelter Rock Chamber Choir performing the national anthem. Principal Miss Zimmer and Assistant Principal Miss Fulchetti led the program; District Superintendent Dr. Kasheep joined to offer words of encouragement.
"You have everything you need already inside you. Make your own rain. Create your own sunshine, and let the greatness within you bloom," Dr. Kasheep told the students during his address, urging them to carry confidence and curiosity into middle school. Miss Zimmer reflected on the students’ growth, saying, "I will truly, truly miss you," and thanked staff, retirees and families for their support.
Student leaders addressed the audience: Campbell Coppins, student council secretary, reflected on the class’s growth, noting, "We are a little wiser, and more importantly, we are closer as friends." Co-presidents Sophia Landon and Abby O'Pangburn spoke about memories and opportunities awaiting in middle school, including athletics, clubs and academic programs.
The ceremony included a multimedia digital yearbook created by the students, musical performances by the Shelter Rock Chamber Choir and a presentation of promotional certificates by Miss Zimmer, Miss Fulchetti and the sixth-grade teaching team. The program recognized retiring staff and thanked custodial, technology and support staff who assisted with the event. A reception outside the auditorium, provided by the school’s student body association, followed the ceremony.
Administrators and staff named during the program included District-level and building leaders and numerous sixth-grade teachers and teaching assistants. The ceremony listed the names of students receiving promotional certificates and dedicated a song of thanks to families and staff who supported the class.
The event served as a school-level celebration; there were no formal votes, policy actions or district decisions taken during the program.
Families were invited to a reception outside the auditorium after the program.
