The Houston County Board of Commissioners approved a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to incorporate certain job titles into the existing AFSCME collective bargaining agreement.
A staff presenter explained that a recent change in Minnesota law allowed previously excluded job titles to be included in collective bargaining. Under the MOA, the county attorney’s legal assistant positions and two network IT positions will be absorbed into the AFSCME bargaining unit and appear in the next contract listing.
The presenter clarified the change applies to legal assistants and two IT staff; it does not include the IT director or assistant county attorneys. A commissioner who had sought clarification said he confirmed with staff (Brent) that the MOA covers the legal assistant role, not the county attorney position itself.
A motion to approve the MOA was made, seconded and adopted by voice vote.
