Board ratifies ad for state-funded registrar bonuses, schedules public hearing July 2

The Fluvanna Board of Supervisors ratified on June 18 the advertisement of an ordinance authorizing state-funded one-time bonuses for the local registrar and electoral-board members, and set a public hearing for July 2, 2025.
Staff explained the bonuses were provided for in the Virginia state budget and do not require a local match. "The bonuses don't require a local funding match, and Fluvanna County will be reimbursed by the State Department of Elections for the salary payments, which include the bonuses," staff said. Because the May 2025 board meeting predated the county receiving the formal request on June 6, staff had to advertise the hearing for the July 2 meeting.
The board voted to ratify the advertisement and scheduled the public hearing. If adopted after the July hearing, the ordinance would authorize a retroactive payment consistent with state guidance.
Staff said they would bring the ordinance forward on July 2 for formal adoption and that state reimbursement processes will be followed.
