Annabelle Appel, a member of Park Campus's class of 2024, described June 18 how she led a Girl Scouts Silver Award project to restore the Park Campus outdoor classroom.
"My name is Annabelle Appel and I was part of the Park Campus class of 2024," she told the board. She said the project was designed to be sustainable, leadable and to serve the school community: her work included a six-foot welcome sign with a plaque, four stumps burned with the Park Campus logo to serve as seats, two rock gardens with painted rocks and restored raised planters, and a student intramural activity that produced more than 80 sit-upons for outdoor seating that students could take home.
Annabelle credited Park Campus staff, naming Mr. Milamed and Ms. Morales, and thanked custodial staff and Dr. Lynn Glickman for support. Dr. Lynn Glickman, superintendent of Grayslake CCSD 46, praised the project and said the district has been working to enhance outdoor spaces: "This is gonna make a huge difference for our students and our staff," she said.
Board members and staff complimented Annabelle on leadership and sustainability. District operations staff also assisted: Annabelle said the operations and maintenance crew helped bring the idea to completion. The board offered no formal action on the presentation; the project was presented during the regular agenda under presentations and received public commendation.
