The Michigan City Parks and Recreation Board on June 18 ratified a special purchase of $430 for emergency HVAC repairs at the senior center after temperatures in part of the building rose above 80 degrees.
According to the parks presenter, the senior center has a computerized HVAC system and there are few vendors qualified to service it. The senior center director called Arctic Engineering to respond quickly; staff said they could not wait for multiple quotes given the need for a prompt repair. "They were able to come out. But per our purchasing policy and law, we need to report back to the board after special purchase has occurred," the presenter said.
The invoice for the work was $430. A board member moved to approve the special purchase; the motion was seconded and carried.
The board did not discuss further scope of the HVAC work, longer‑term maintenance plans, or vendor options during the meeting.
